Currently Associate Principal Horn of the Permanent Staff at the Teatro Colón Stable Orchestra
Born in Santiago, Chile, in 1992, he began his horn studies at the age of eleven with his father, Mauricio Ibacache (former Principal Horn of the Chilean National Symphony Orchestra). In 2010, he started his musical education at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile under Edward Brown (former principal and current member of the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra). He has taken masterclasses with distinguished horn players and professors such as Stefan Dohr, Fergus McWilliam (Berlin Philharmonic), Dale Clevenger, Will Sanders, and Ignacio García.
In 2014, he was selected to join the Brass Academy Alicante, a high-performance academy, studying under Nury Guarnaschelli as his teacher and mentor.
Awards
- 2006-2011: Award winner at the Corporación de Amigos del Teatro Municipal de Santiago competition.
- 2007: Recipient of the Jorge Peña Hen Scholarship, awarded by the Foundation for Youth and Children’s Orchestras of Chile, achieving the highest national score.
- 2011: Winner of the Young Soloists Competition of the Corporación Cultural de Concepción, performing Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4.
- 2013 & 2014: Winner of the Amadeus Performers Competition in La Serena, Chile, performing Mozart’s Horn Concertos No. 1 & 4.
Professional Experience
- 2014: Invited to join the orchestra of the Encuentro y Festival de Música de Santander (Spain), under the baton of Jesús López Cobos and Peter Csaba. Also performed as a soloist and in chamber music concerts alongside Michel Arrignon (Paris Conservatory).
- October 2015: Won a Principal Horn position at the OFUA in Alicante.
- 2015 & 2016: Member of the Brass Academy Alicante Ensemble, under the direction of Rudolf Korp, performing numerous concerts in Alicante.
- July 2016: Invited as a musician to the International Summer Brass Festival Alicante, performing in the ensemble and as a soloist with Nury Guarnaschelli, Gabriel García, and Paulo Muñoz.
- September 2016: Toured San Juan, Argentina, performing Mozart’s Horn Quintet at the Juan Victoria Auditorium.
- 2017: Gave concerts in La Serena, Chile, conducting and performing Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 1 with the Elqui Chamber Orchestra.
- Since April 2017, a member of the Teatro Colón Stable Orchestra in Buenos Aires.
- 2018: Became a permanent member of the Bayres Horn Quartet in Buenos Aires.
- August 2018: Performed as a soloist at the Teatro Oriente in Santiago, Chile, with the Juvenile Symphony Orchestra of La Antena.
- September 2018: Invited to the Porto Alegre Horn Festival, performing with Bayres Horn and the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra.
- 2019: Performed as a soloist at the La Serena Summer Chamber Music Season and with the Juvenile Symphony Orchestra of La Antena.
- July 2019: Invited with Bayres Horns as guest artists at Italian Brass Week, one of the world’s most prestigious brass festivals, performing in Florence and Vinci. Also toured Valencia and Barcelona.
- September 2019: Toured Oman with the Teatro Colón Stable Orchestra, performing at the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM).
- November 2019: Won a permanent position as a member of the horn section of the Teatro Colón Stable Orchestra.
- November 2020: Invited as a brass jury member for the Friends of the Santiago Municipal Theater Scholarship Competition.
- September 2021: Released his first album with Bayres Horns, focusing on Astor Piazzolla in celebration of his centenary. The album is available on all digital platforms.
- October 2021: Performed as a soloist with Bayres Horns at the Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, alongside the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of the official 2021 season.
- November 2021: Invited again as a brass jury member for the Friends of the Santiago Municipal Theater Scholarship Competition.
- January 2022: Invited as a horn professor for the Music Weeks organized by the Municipal Corporation of La Serena, Chile.
- March 2022: Performed chamber music at the Llao-Llao Musical Weeks in Bariloche, alongside Argentina’s most renowned musicians.
- May 2023: Programmed to perform with the Le Cor Horn Quartet at the Teatro Colón’s Golden Hall Chamber Music Season.
- July 2023: Won the Associate Principal Horn position in the Teatro Colón Stable Orchestra.
- August 2023: Invited as a musician for the Argerich Festival 2023, performing chamber music in the Teatro Colón’s main hall.
- August 2023: Invited as Principal Horn of the prestigious Camerata Bariloche, performing in the Teatro Colón’s main hall.
- August 2023: Performed with Le Cor Horn Quartet, focusing on opera music, and with Aurai Wind Quintet at the Teatro Colón’s Golden Hall Chamber Music Series.
- January 2024: Invited as a horn professor and chamber musician at the 41st Curitiba Music Workshop (Brazil), held from January 25 to February 4, 2024, teaching chamber music and orchestral repertoire while performing multiple concerts with wind and brass quintets.
Currently, he serves as Associate Principal Horn of the Teatro Colón Stable Orchestra in Buenos Aires, actively participating in chamber and solo projects in Argentina, Spain, and Chile, as well as teaching and mentoring various youth orchestras in Chile.
